How to Pass Part-66 Module 11 — Turbine Aeroplane Structures & Systems

What Module 11 covers

Module 11 spans theory of flight and high-speed aerodynamics; aircraft structures — fuselage, wings, stabilisers, flight-control surfaces, zonal and station identification and structural classification; and essentially every aircraft system: air conditioning and pressurisation, instruments and avionics, electrical power, equipment and furnishings, fire protection, flight controls, fuel, hydraulic power, ice and rain protection, landing gear, lights, oxygen, pneumatics, water and waste, and the auxiliary power unit.

Why it is hard

• Sheer breadth — it touches nearly every ATA chapter
• The paper is long (up to 175 questions for B1.1), so stamina and pace matter
• It mixes concept questions with detailed system knowledge
• It is easy to run out of study time if you do not plan the coverage

A strategy that works

• Break the module down by ATA system and study one system at a time — treat each as a mini-module.
• Master the theory-of-flight and structures sections first; they underpin the systems.
• For each system, learn its purpose, main components, how it works and its warnings and protections.
• Use mind maps to hold each system's architecture in one picture.
• Because the paper is long, sit full-length timed mocks so your pace is proven before exam day.

Exam length

Module 11 is multiple-choice at 75% to pass, with the largest papers in the licence — around 140 questions for most B1 subcategories and up to 175 for B1.1, at roughly 75 seconds each. Do not sit it until you have completed full-length timed practice.
