How to Pass Part-66 Module 13 — Aircraft Aerodynamics, Structures & Systems
Module 13 is the big one for B2 avionics engineers — the largest paper in the whole licence, up to 235 questions, spanning aerodynamics, structures and every system with a strong avionics emphasis. Like Module 11, it cannot be crammed; it has to be worked through system by system.
What Module 13 covers
Module 13 covers theory of flight and aircraft structures, then the full range of systems with an avionics focus: autoflight, communications and navigation (ATA 22/23/34), electrical power, instruments and indicating/recording systems, and the aircraft systems a B2 engineer supports — air conditioning and pressurisation, fire protection, flight controls, fuel, hydraulics, ice and rain protection, landing gear, lights, oxygen, pneumatics and water/waste — together with electromagnetic environment and integrated modular avionics.
Why it is hard
- It is the longest exam in the licence — up to 235 questions — so pace and stamina are decisive
- Huge breadth across avionics and aircraft systems
- Strong emphasis on autoflight, communications and navigation
- Easy to under-cover if you do not plan the syllabus
A strategy that works
- Work system by system (by ATA chapter), treating each as a mini-module.
- Give extra time to the avionics-heavy areas — autoflight, comms and nav — which carry many questions.
- For each system, learn purpose, main components, operation and the indications and protections.
- Use mind maps to hold each system's architecture in one view.
- Sit full-length timed mocks — with up to 235 questions, proven pace is essential.
Exam length
Module 13 is multiple-choice at 75% to pass and is the largest paper in the licence — up to 235 questions for B2 at roughly 75 seconds each. Do not sit it until full-length timed practice is comfortable.
